About MK Winery

Chateau MK brand is a continuation of the legacy of our grandfather, honorable winemaker Michael Kumsiashvili, who spent 50 years in Georgian wine industry, refining and expanding international recognition of its unique wine styles, raising generations of winemakers, and instilling high values of wine appreciation. Today our award-winning wines are crafted by his grandson, Michael. Recently Chateau MK Rhapsodia received gold medal, 95 points by the distinguished panel of wine masters at International Wine & Spirits Challenge (IWSC).

Our mission & philosophy

We are inspired by our family’s winemaking tradition to bring people together and celebrate life with passion, joy and the unique values of wine by crafting exceptional product experiences. We respect the history of wine, the character of each grape, and the accumulated wisdom of three generations of winemaking family.

The art of winemaking:
The ancient roots of Georgian wine

Ever wonder how ancient wines tasted? Discover how our winemaking continues 8000-year uninterrupted art of making wine in large underground clay vessels called “Qvevri”. Scientists dated the earliest archeological evidence of wine residue in Qvevri in Georgia.

We are proud of our special wines which are fermented and aged in Qvevri with skin-contact style. These wines are bursting with energy and elegance. Indulge your curiosity for tastes, smoothness, transcendent aromas, history, ancient wine culture, and timeless joy of it all.

Three generations of excellence

Our cofounder and master winemaker, Michael Kumsiashvili Jr., was mentored by grandfather Michael and father Gennady, both distinguished professional winemakers.

He has worked for a number of wineries over 25 years and won multiple awards. Michael expresses his winemaking philosophy: “We passionately craft elegant wines, by respecting the character of each grape and the accumulated wisdom of the three generations of winemaking family.”

Tsinandali appellation,
Kakheti wine region, Georgia

Just in Tsinandali appellation we have 9 different soil zones (from volcanic alluvial and proalluvial to brown forest, heavy loamy and clay), which are suitable to cultivate high-quality grape varieties.

In this natural habitat of viticulture, in the homeland of winemaking, the diversity of soil and flexibility to grow many unique grapes are remarkable advantages of Georgian wine regions.
